Terri Schiavo and Euthanasia

The right to life.

It can be easily taken for granted and, as we have seen in our culture in the last 30 years, is constantly under attack.

The most recent attack on the sanctity of life has raised its murderous hand in sunny Florida. Terri Schiavo is a mentally handicapped woman who has suffered much in the past decade and a half, but remains a living, breathing, responsive, and expressive human being.

But her husband, Michael Schiavo, is eager to pull the plug. The problem is that there is no plug to pull. Terri is not on any sort of life support machines. In fact, the only assistance she has is a feeding/watering tube. So when Michael says 'pull the plug', he means, yank her feeding/watering tube and let her die of starvation and dehydration.

This guy's a real winner. The Department of Children & Families have begun investigation regarding allegations of abuse and neglect by Michael.

It is truly sickening. And Terri's parents are understandably up in arms.

[Her parents] want medical experts to reevaluate Terri; 17 doctors that specialize in brain injuries have sent in afadavits saying, Terri is not in a persistent vegatative state and that recent medical breakthroughs could improve Terri's condition.

She's NOT a vegetable!

And yet, Florida Circuit Judge George W. Greer signed an order stating that "absent a stay from the appellate courts, the guardian, Michael Schiavo, shall cause the removal of nutrition and hydration from the ward, Theresa Schiavo, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18th 2005."

This is beyond ridiculous - it is sad.

There is a petition you can sign, and congressmen you can contact, but more importantly, pray for this woman and for the preservation of the sanctity of human life in this country.

    I imagine that Terri’s parents are in extreme anguish about this situation. I only hope that they know the God of all comfort.

  3. I have to tell you that I have been watching this story more closely now. [Along with the rest of America] and I am continually amazed at the unfolding of events as they transpire. I honestly have been praying that God will heal this poor woman so that she can regain control of her life and not be at the hands of someone who so obviously does not love her [her husband].

    I guess one of the most surprising things to me has been the amount of people who support Mr. Schiavo’s actions.

  5. Yes, I am finding that surprising as well. I just can’t help but wonder what type of relationship they had prior to her accident…and how he justifies his other relationship. At any rate…I am surprised that there are a number of supporters for Mr. Schiavo among my own friends. It is disappointing, but prods me on to witness to them in earnest.
